More than just Blackbeard's treasures are waiting to be discovered on NC's Crystal Coast!
2007-06-07
Famous for 85-miles of shimmering beaches, crystalline blue water and lush maritime forests, North Carolina's Crystal Coast along the Southern Outer Banks was designated as having "Clean and Healthy" beaches by the Clean Beaches Council. Recognized among the best shipwreck diving destinations in the world by Scuba Diving magazine, the Crystal Coast is comprised primarily of area cities Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, Beaufort and Cape Lookout.
"It's one of the few remaining areas that have wide, expansive beaches where you can sit and no one's beside you. People who visit want to come back. People who move here never want to leave."
-Carol Lohr, executive director of the Crystal Coast Tourism Authority, on WVEC-TV, 5/22/07
Boat shoes or flip-flops? We say both. The communities of Beaufort, Morehead City, and Atlantic Beach join to create a jumping-off point for the southern tip of the Outer Banks. Who wants to jump, though, considering that within a 30-minute radius you can be strolling a harbor boardwalk or kicking back in your beach chair? This is a great place to spend an early-summer weekend."
-Southern Living, 2002
"North Carolina offers some of the most pristine and beautiful beaches in the world. The Atlantic feeds the state with an ebb and flow of tide through numerous inlets that dot the coastline. The inlets flow into calm Sound waters and the Intracoastal Waterway, then eventually meet rivers that drain from the mountains and coastal plains. For a life on the water coupled with the very best amenities that land lovers can imagine, the North Carolina "waterways" communities are a perfect fit."
-Living Southern Style, 2000
"Prices are low enough, relatively, to make the region [Southeastern NC] attractive as a second-home market. While the beaches have attracted North Carolinians from the Triangle and the Triad for decades, New Englanders and Californians have discovered this area as an attractive vacation destination."
