Live the Heritage of the True Core Sound

The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum incorporates so much more than waterfowl. As an integral part of the Core Sound community, it shares not only the history and lives of the people who have lived here over the centuries, but also their souls. It shows intimately what it was (and is) like to truly live and breathe Down East. Here, you can experience the life of a 1700’s whaler, see how the old mullet fishing factories operated, build boats, and even experience moving your life and family off the island after one devastating hurricane too many.

The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum showcases much of the area’s ambience through fascinating oral histories and storytelling, folk art, carving demonstrations, environmental education, and even by sharing the intriguing culture of waterfowling, the anchor of this widespread Down East community. Willow Pond, spanning four acres of the museum, serves as the museum’s inviting centerpiece and backdrop for an interactive experience that fully encompasses this unique and history-packed region.
