Crystal Coast Attractions

Your Own Edge of the World

More than a century ago, fishing was a way of life all along the Crystal Coast. Today it still is, though often recreationally as opposed to a means of making a living. One of the reasons fishing is so popular is the diversity here – both in the types of fish caught and the types of fishing.

Depending on the time of year, you might reel in mackerel or mullet, sea bass or sea trout, snapper, spot, bluefish, croaker, tuna or flounder. And if you'd like a little variety in how you fish, that's here too. Choose surf fishing or pier fishing, saltwater fly fishing, "head boat" fishing or Gulf Stream fishing. You can also fish inshore, off shore or along the Intracoastal. Tackle shops are abundant in the area and offer live bait, lures, supplies, and anything else you might need for the day. Several well-known fishing tournaments call The Crystal Coast home too, such as the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in Morehead City and Atlantic Beach's King Mackerel Tournament. If tournaments grab your interest, a local calendar of events can offer more information.
