From interpretive exhibits and natural history of the area to the beginnings of the U. S. Coast Guard, the Maritime Museum in Beaufort provides both entertainment and education for all ages. Explore the history and passionate craft of boat-making, experience the thrill of submerging in an old-fashioned diving bell, imagine the life of a 1900s life-saving guard and even gasp at the actual vessel once used to save victims of sinking ships.
The NC Maritime Museum is also headquarters for information on the discovery of Blackbeard's infamous Queen Anne's Revenge, recently found just off the coast of Beaufort. This exciting exhibit houses some of the Revenge's recovered artifacts, shows how the pirate ship was finally located, takes a peek into the life of a pirate, and even shares the chilling "Pirate's Code of Conduct. "
With children's summer classes, daily activities, boating programs and lessons, environmental field trips and special events, and you'll find a unique and intimate museum experience that's not to be missed. Located directly across from Bogue Inlet on Front Street in Beaufort, and free to the public.
