Fort Macon State Park - Summer Activites

FORT MACON STATE PARK SUMMER 2008 ACTIVITIES

170-year-old Fort Macon open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Audio program in Commandant's and Enlisted Men's Quarters, World War II Barracks and Gunpowder Magazine open daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Bookstore and Museum open daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.   For further information call 252-726-3775  8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Monday through Friday.

 

JUNE

Weekdays   10, 11, 2, 3   FORT TOURS – Meet at the fort parade ground for a guided tour.

01  Saturday  10:30 & 2:30  CIVIL WAR MUSKET DEMONSTRATION – Meet at the fort entrance to learn about the firing process of the Civil War musket.

03  Tuesday  10:00 a.m.  BEACH HIKE – Meet at the bathhouse for a leisurely hike to learn about the natural and cultural history of the area.

06  Friday  10:00 a.m.  CRABBY CORNER – Learn about the interesting life cycle of the blue crab and methods used to catch them.  Blue crabs and various crabbing traps will be on display.  Meet at the bathhouse by refreshment stand.

06  Friday   7:00 p.m. CONCERT IN THE PARK – The Sunshine Band (35+ piece orchestra playing classics to pops) will be giving a free concert in the fort parade ground.  Call the park office for more information (252)726-3775

13  Friday  10:00 a.m.  SEINING THE SOUND – Hike to Bogue Sound and pull a seine net to view local sea life.  Wear wading shoes and call the park office for reservations (252)726-3775.

13  Friday 10:00 a.m.  TACKLE BOX TALK – Meet at the bathhouse by the refreshment stand for a sit-down discussion with a  Ranger to discuss fishing tackle and strategies used along the waters of the surf and sound.
